Matt was one step away from joining the marine instead of the FBI. And he went on to become the Section Chief of the FBI overseeing all human intelligence activities within the counterterrorism division.

Growing up on military bases, Matt seemed to have a strong sense of mission since his childhood day. He served as a cadet, was an Eagle Scout, and went on to be a police officer while going to college in Denver at the same time. He applied to the marine after college but did not make the cut. He ended up doing a detour at Keybank being a financial fraud analyst.
He did not like it. The lack of mission and sense of justice in the private sector frustrated him. And then 9/11 happened. Matt's uncle was a victim. That's when he decided counterterrorism was his calling.
The FBI academy was not easy; a quarter of the students did not make it through. Matt graduated and started his career in DC. He quickly moved up the ranks and found his passion for management in Phoenix. He could not share too many stories, but he did share a domestic terrorist likely prevented in Arizona. The challenge of many jobs like his was that you could not quantify or even express to the public what you have prevented. It was one of those unsung hero stories, where countless hours and efforts went into keeping the American ways of life, without anyone noticing or realizing that their normal ways of life are actually built on the foundation of many of these unsung heroes.
