The Great Sand Dunes: Eating Raw Chicken Wings

It was all because of Brad.

My first overnight camping trip was in the Great Sand Dunes. It wasn't even a real camping. It was a car camping trip.
I was so ill prepared. I didn't have a headlight. We only brought one bundle of wood and didn't expect it to rain. Worse, we brought chicken wings and brats that took long time to cook.
We arrived at the Sand Dunes late at night and it was raining. We set up the camp with a borrow headlight from a neighbor. There was intermittent rain throughout the night. We had to run in and out of the camp to grill our CHICKEN WINGS and BRATS.

At some point, Brad gave up and started eating some half-cooked brats. And I started eating some half-cooked chicken wings. We should have brought the aluminium foil so that we could wrap them up and toss the food into the fire!
The sky cleared up around 2am. The sky was gorgeous, making it worth all the while. Luckily Brad had a DSL to capture the sky.

The next morning was equally pretty. Until it got windy later. Up on the sand dunes, we could barely open our eyes. But running down the sand dunes was a lot of fun. I recommend doing that.

About 15 minutes away is the San Luis State Park. Go there to capture another view of the Sand Dunes!
Also, we wanted to drive on some trail that would get us further into the sand dunes, but we only had a AWD Nissan Rogue. You need a real 4WD to get on that trail or else you would get fined. On that trail, there is awesome picnic spot before you really need a 4WD. I would check that out next time!
Lessons Learned Recap

2. Get a headlight.
3. Don't buy chicken wings.
4. Bring aluminium foil for cooking.
5. Bring a cooler for beers.
6. Arrive early to get a nice spot.
7. If you don't get one in the park, there are some for-rent spots right outside (pay at the convenient shop).
8. Run down the sand dunes, it is fun.
9. Drive a 4WD to get the sand trail.
10. Go on a clear day/night!
