How To Do Moab Next Time

A reminder to my future self:

1. Preparation

Water. Get a lot of water before heading to your campsite. But water jugs are easy to get in Moab.

Food. KISS, keep it simple stupid.

Wood bundles. These are easy to get in town.

Ice and Cooler. You need this.

Do not stop by the weird, sketchy looking gas station that is right at the exit from I-70 to Moab. Anything there can cost you an arm or a leg. A jug of water costs $5. I am still not over it.

2. Schedule

Day 1 - Set up a base camp and head to a overnight backpacking (along the Whole Enchilada Trail)

Day 2 - Back to the base camp, some day hikes (Dead Horse is a must) and water sports

Day 3 - Backpack around the Arches

Day 4 - Breakfast in town

3. Campsite

This will be the biggest struggle.

For car camping:

a) The campsite that Eddy suggested: 313, then 137, then 140. Great view of the canyon. See his drop pin.

b) Along the Colorado river. Beautiful scenery and near the water, but most of the camp sites are near 128.

For backpacking:

a) Arches National Park - the iconic arches are all here and backpacking here allow you to see most of them and see it under the stars

b) Along the LPS singletrack or the Porcupine Rim trail (use Sand Flat Road to get there) - the view of the Castle Valley is stunning.

c) The beginning of the Whole Enchilada Trail, or La Sal Mountains - did not have a lot of time to see it but the view from the shuttle was gorgeous
